Built for outdoor battery storage
-
Outdoor Configuration Options
Weather-sealed steel construction, coatings, penetrations, and ventilation can be selected around the installation site’s wind, precipitation, temperature, and corrosion conditions.
-
1, 2 and 3-Hour Constructions
1, 2 and 3-hour wall and roof constructions are available, configured around the project hazard assessment, separation strategy, and applicable site requirements.
-
Integrated Safety Systems
Fire-suppression, gas-detection, thermal-monitoring, and ventilation options can be factory integrated and tested as specified in the approved project scope.
-
Inverter & BMS Integration
Cable penetrations, bus-bar routing, and conduit paths can be coordinated with the inverter and battery-management configuration. Control panels built to UL 508A are available as specified.

Many battery enclosures begin as repurposed shipping containers. AEL develops purpose-built configurations that coordinate structural design, fire-safety options, ventilation, and documentation for project and AHJ review.
AEL Sentinel enclosures are purpose-engineered around the selected battery system and project design basis. 1, 2 and 3-hour constructions, suppression, detection, ventilation, and control-panel options built to UL 508A can be integrated and tested as specified. For ordered projects, engineering drawings and submittal documentation are delivered to support review.
Built in Santa Rosa, California, with material, coating, equipment, and UL or ETL (Intertek) listed-component selections documented for the approved project scope.

Frequently asked questions
What is a solar battery enclosure?
A solar battery enclosure is a weather-sealed structure used to house lithium-ion batteries paired with photovoltaic systems. The configuration can coordinate physical separation, environmental protection, ventilation, detection, and suppression options around the battery system, site conditions, and applicable project requirements.
Do solar battery installations require 1, 2 or 3-hour enclosure construction?
Requirements vary by battery chemistry, quantity, system configuration, separation distance, building proximity, local code adoption, and AHJ direction. NFPA 855 may be part of the project design basis. AEL provides engineering documentation to support project and permitting review.
What size Sentinel enclosure do I need for a solar + storage project?
Sentinel enclosures are available in 8×10, 8×20, and 8×40 starting configurations, with custom sizes available. Selection depends on battery-rack count, inverter placement, working clearances, equipment access, and applicable separation criteria. AEL reviews the equipment schedule and site plan before proposing a layout.
Can Sentinel enclosures be configured for outdoor installation?
Yes. Outdoor configurations can include weather-sealed steel panels, selected coatings, sealed cable and conduit penetrations, and ventilation or HVAC coordinated with the installation site’s environmental and structural design criteria.
How does AEL support the permitting process for solar battery projects?
For ordered projects, AEL provides submittal packages including stamped engineering drawings, equipment schedules, suppression descriptions, ventilation calculations and design-basis narratives as specified. Our engineering team can respond to plan-check comments and participate in coordination calls. Final requirements and approval remain with the project team and local AHJ.
What is the lead time for a Sentinel solar battery enclosure?
Engineering, fabrication, delivery, and installation schedules are quoted for each project. Prefabrication can reduce field work by integrating the approved enclosure, environmental-control, detection, suppression, and control scope before delivery; placement, utilities, and commissioning remain site dependent.
