Hazardous Location Infrastructure
C1D1 and C1D2 hazardous location enclosures and rooms.
C1D1 and C1D2 rooms and enclosures with ventilation, gas detection, interlocks and controls built in-house, engineered around your area classification.
C1D1 & C1D2 Hazardous Location Enclosures: Electrical and process enclosure options for classified-atmosphere projects, with project-specific ventilation, interlocks, controls, and containment.
Built in-house: AEL is fully vertically integrated. Control panels, container retrofits, plumbing, electrical, fire suppression and HVAC installation, welding, sheet metal fabrication, and powder coating are all done by our own team. See our in-house capabilities.
Featured Hazardous Location Solutions
Start with the enclosure architecture. We will scope the rest.
Two distinct starting points for indoor process environments and outdoor containerized deployment.

Featured Product 01
Indoor Hazardous Location Enclosures
A controlled indoor enclosure format for processes that need viewing access, integrated air conditioning, ventilation coordination, and hazardous-area controls.

Featured Product 02
Outdoor Hazardous Location Enclosures
Containerized and outdoor enclosure options for distributed sites, process yards, petroleum facilities, and projects that need a weather-ready hazardous-area package.

Listings & Standards
UL 1389 listed hazardous location enclosures.
AEL C1D1 and C1D2 hazardous location enclosures are UL 1389 listed for the US and Canada. AEL is also UL listed for hazardous location control panels. UL 508A covers the full control panel and enclosure, and every build uses UL or ETL (Intertek) listed components.
- UL 1389 listed (US and Canada)
- AEL CORE control panels, UL 508A full control panel and enclosure
- UL listed hazardous location control panels
- Built to ATEX and CE standards
- Independent peer reviews by PSI and PRV Engineers

Applications
Custom hazardous location enclosures.
We build C1D1 and C1D2 enclosure packages for hazardous atmosphere applications, including solvent processing, chemical processing, petroleum facilities, and industrial sites.
-
Class I, Division 1 & 2
Enclosure architectures planned for environments where flammable gases, vapors, or liquids require a carefully defined hazardous-area strategy.
-
Hazardous-area ventilation
Ventilation, make-up air, exhaust, and interlock packages can be coordinated around the process and the authority having jurisdiction.
-
Detection and interlocks
Gas detection, emergency shutdown, control logic, and equipment interfaces can be integrated into the enclosure package.
-
AHJ-ready documentation
Project documentation can include classification information, equipment schedules, drawings, and ventilation calculations for review.
- C1D1 or C1D2 enclosure planning
- Hazardous-area electrical coordination
- UL 508A full control panel and enclosure
- UL listed hazardous location control panels
- Intrinsically safe ventilation options
- LEL and gas-detection interfaces
- Automatic shutdown interlocks
- Flame arrestor and deflagration-venting options
- Stamped drawings and ventilation calculations
- NEC Article 500 project documentation

Questions to resolve before enclosure engineering.
The project classification, process, equipment, ventilation, controls, site, and AHJ requirements determine the final enclosure scope.
What is the difference between a C1D1 and C1D2 enclosure project?
The division depends on how the project team classifies the probability and duration of a flammable-gas or vapor hazard. AEL uses the approved hazardous-area classification and process information to coordinate enclosure, ventilation, electrical, detection, and control options.
For a plain-language explainer, read C1D1 vs C1D2: what the classifications mean and what a room needs.
Should a project use an indoor or outdoor hazardous location enclosure?
The decision depends on the process location, available floor space, equipment access, utilities, weather exposure, discharge routing, delivery constraints, and facility workflow. AEL offers both indoor room-style and outdoor containerized starting points.
Can ventilation, gas detection, and shutdown interlocks be integrated?
Yes, when included in the approved scope. Exhaust, make-up air, LEL or application-specific gas detection, alarms, automatic shutdown interfaces, flame arrestors, and controls are coordinated with the process and project design basis.
What information is needed for a hazardous location enclosure quote?
Provide the process description, chemicals or vapors, approved area classification, equipment list, heat loads, utility needs, ventilation basis, access requirements, site location, delivery constraints, and any facility or AHJ requirements already identified.
How do the Mega, Exxa, Cube, DYS, Zeta, and Degassing products relate to HazLoc projects?
Those solvent-processing series are product starting points for different indoor, outdoor, compact, large-format, or specialty workflows. Final C1D1 or C1D2 configuration, equipment, controls, and ventilation are confirmed by model and project; the enclosures are UL 1389 listed for the US and Canada. AEL is also UL listed for hazardous location control panels.
