AEL DTC Series lab fume hood — ducted and ductless configurations

Cleanrooms & Controlled Environments

DTC Series lab fume hoods, ducted and ductless.

Custom-fabricated fume hoods for pharmaceutical, chemical, semiconductor, and research applications, configured around the process, exhaust strategy, and applicable project standards.

Ducted Fume Hoods

Ducted exhaust configured for the process.

  • Continuous exhaust to exterior — no recirculation
  • Handles corrosive, toxic, and flammable vapors
  • Variable air volume (VAV) control available
  • Sash configurations: vertical, horizontal, combination
  • Chemical-resistant FRP or stainless interior liner
  • UL 508A control-panel capability with airflow monitor available as specified
  • Bypass design maintains face velocity at all sash heights
  • Available in bench-top and floor-standing configurations

Ductless Fume Hoods

Ductless filtration matched to compatible materials.

  • Self-contained carbon or HEPA filtration — no ductwork required
  • Self-contained installation approach subject to site utilities and commissioning
  • Ideal for low-volume chemical handling and light solvent work
  • Filter saturation alarm with digital monitoring
  • Available in bench-top configurations
  • Lower installation cost vs. ducted systems
  • Recirculates filtered air back into the lab
  • Not suitable for high-volume or highly toxic vapor applications

Frequently asked questions.

What is the difference between a ducted and ductless fume hood?

A ducted fume hood exhausts contaminated air to the outside through ductwork connected to a building’s ventilation system. A ductless fume hood recirculates air through internal carbon or HEPA filters. Ducted hoods are required for high-toxicity, high-volume, or flammable vapor applications. Ductless hoods are suitable for low-volume chemical handling where the specific chemicals are compatible with the filter media.

What chemicals can be handled in a lab fume hood?

Chemical suitability depends on the material, concentration, quantity, process, hood materials, exhaust path, filtration, and facility controls. Ductless hoods are limited to chemicals compatible with the selected filter media. Review safety data sheets and the complete application before specifying either approach.

How are OSHA and ANSI/AIHA Z9.5 considered for a fume-hood project?

ANSI/AIHA Z9.5 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1450 can inform the project design basis. Face velocity, sash position, exhaust volume, controls, and testing criteria are established for the specific hood and facility. UL 508A control-panel capability is available as specified.

Can you build custom sizes or walk-in configurations?

Yes. Custom and walk-in configurations are available for engineering review around the process, equipment, access, exhaust, utilities, fabrication, shipping, and installation constraints.

What industries use lab fume hoods?

Pharmaceutical manufacturing, chemical R&D, university and commercial laboratories, semiconductor fabrication, solvent processing, aerospace materials testing, and any facility handling volatile or hazardous chemical compounds.
